The condition of the Kurdish prisoners of conscience on hunger strike in prisons of Iran is at an alarming stage

Since the establishment of the Islamic state in Iran in 1979, up till now, millions of people have been discriminated against, exploited or denied their very basic rights due to their political beliefs, ethnicity or having different religion from the Shait. Meanwhile Iranian civil and political activists as well as the students, particularly Kurds have seen arbitrary arrests, imprisonment, torture and humiliation on a daily basis. Many have spent years in prison living with torture or ending up being executed. One could say that Iran has become a huge prison with full range of torture for the Iranian citizens, both men and women.

In order to condemn and change these policies, currently hundreds of Kurdish political-civil detainees have staged an “unlimited” hunger strike in Iranian prisons. Their lives are in great danger and they need urgent help!

The demands of the hunger strikers are:

 1. Recognition of their political and civil identity.

 2. Immediate cancellation of death sentences given to political and civil activists and remove the death penalty from the Iranian constitution.

3. To put an end to torture, ill treatment, persecution and inhuman treatment of the prisoners.

4. To eliminate the policies of national, religious and sexual discrimination. To stop the policy of sending detainees into exile and to improve the prison’s conditions.

 5. The Iranian prison should be monitored by international and Iranian Human Rights Organizations.

 6. The Iranian Judiciary system with all of its sub-institutions should be reviewed and reformed on the bases of human rights standards.

We appeal to all human rights organizations and institutions around the world, intellectuals and political democratic organizations to come to the rescue of the Kurdish hunger strikers in the Islamic Republic of Iran, and to condemn Iran for its oppressive policies against the political prisoners as well as its violation of human rights.

We call upon the international community, the United Nations, and  the democratic countries all over the world to standup with the Kurdish and Iranian people in their march for freedom, democracy and peace.

Forty-one days have past since the detainees staged the “unlimited hunger strike” and their lives are in grave danger with each successive day.
