The proposal for the College of Agriculture at the University of Sulaimaniya was the first stage in establishing the university campus in the Northern part of Iraq.
The College of Agriculture consists of three basic divisions:
1) Animal Husbandry
2) Forestry and Plantation
3) Industries and Agricultural Production.
About 1,000 students and faculty members will share the compound. The compound was formed in such a way that each department has the best possibilities to give its own learning message. At the same time the systematic layout of the departments provided easy extension in the future and considerable interaction among the students.
The climate of the Sulaimaniya area is defined by the Mediterranean Sea weather. In addition there are occasional tornados called ÒrashabaÓ or Òthe black windÓ. Accordingly, the buildings were oriented towards internal courtyards and linked by continuous colonnades throughout the compound. The compound was provided two plazas Ð one located centrally and the other near the mosque for worshipping purposes.
