I call her the mother of Iraqi poetry. [Al sheer al hur] It’s so sad for everyone the lost of Nazik, Iraqi people and Arabs word. She was born in Baghdad Iraq from a famous family in poetry. Her birthday was in August 23 1923. Her mother also wrote a published poet, under an assumed name (Um Nazar al Malaeka). Her father Sadik was a great writer and was well educated. Nazik’s life started in the early 1940’s her talent in the Arabic alphabet made her so great. She studied music, art, and writing at school of Art in Baghdad [Mahad al fanon al jamiela] 1944. In 1944 she graduated from (Dar Al Moaalameen) School of teaching. She became a teacher with a diploma degree. Also she studied English French and Latin. In 1954 she got her MA master degree in art from the University of Wisconsin, USA. Her real last name goes by [kubba] one of the famous Iraqi families. The name Almalaeka came from some neighbors because they were such a quiet and peaceful family. Generation after generation they hold the name al Malaeka. Last Wednesday she passed away in Cairo, Egypt at age of 84 from a multi health problems and complication due to old age. Nazik wrote a lot of books about poetry. From the bottom of my heart I am sending my consoling to her son and her family. May god bless her and let her rest in peace. This was another great lost to Iraqi culture in the recent time.
